I also find Google's software intrusive-it's simply bloatware. But I've discovered a lean, fast, and innovative alternative for desktop search called exalead one:desktop.

I was floored by one:desktop's broad range of search operators, and the one-click ease of constructing complex search queries; wordstemming is an option, allowing term variants, as is phonetic search, wildcards, domain limiting, proximity search, and spelling 'fuzziness.'
Another really cool thing if you work in a multi-lingual environment (as I do) is that one:desktop boasts language recognition and can use multi-lingual search terms.
Exalead's philosophy and technology have resulted in an intriguing line of products offering a novel, effective search paradigm. It's refreshing to see a new approach to search just when things seemed to be getting stale in the industry.
